With Pakistan’s victory in the first of the three Tests against West Indies came a bunch of facts and statistics, which are listed below:

2 – the number of Tests Pakistan have won under Misbah in the West Indies, the most for any Pakistan captain.

2 – is also the number of consecutive Tests Pakistan have won in the West Indies for the first time in history. They lost the first Test in 2011, but won the second Test and now with this victory, they have won 2 back to back Tests.

4 – the number of teams to have won 2 consecutive Tests in West Indies. Pakistan just became the 5th entry in the list after Australia, England, South Africa and Bangladesh – albeit Bangladesh beat a second string West Indies side.

1 – the number of Pakistan captain to remain not out in both innings of a Test previously; Imran Khan. Misbah just became the 2nd Pakistan captain to achieve this feat after scoring 99* and 12* in 2 innings.

78 – the sixes tally of Misbah ul Haq in Tests, joint equal with MS Dhoni – albeit the latter hit those in 90 Tests compared to Misbah’s 73.

78 – is also the most sixes by a Pakistan batsman in Tests. Younis Khan follows Misbah and resides at the 2nd position, with 67 sixes.

25 – the number of Tests Pakistan now have won under Misbah, easily the most for any Pakistan captain. In fact, he currently sits at No. 9 among captains with most victories. If Pakistan win the next 2 Tests, Misbah will join MS Dhoni, Vivian Richards and Hansie Cronje at No. 7 with 27 victories.


72.30 – is Misbah’s batting average in winning causes as captain. Among captains with at least 25 victories in their bag, Misbah tops this chart by a long margin, with Graeme Smith (61.56) coming at No. 2.

0 – the number of Asian captains who have won more Tests outside Asia than Misbah. This victory marked Misbah’s 7 victory in non-Asia. Saurav Ganguly comes next with 6.

7/64 – Mohammad Amir’s best bowling figures in Tests surpassing 7/105 in that infamous Lord’s Test 2010.

9 – the number of 5-wicket hauls Yasir Shah has now in Tests. Among Pakistan leg-spinners, Danish Kaneria tops the list with 15 in 61 Tests, while Mushtaq Ahmed comes next with 10 in 52. Yasir currently has 9 in just 24 games, and looks all set to surpass Mushtaq in this series.

4 – the number of 5-fors Mohammad Amir has now in Tests. Since his debut in 2009, no Pakistan fast bowler other than Junaid Khan (5) has taken more 5-wicket hauls than him.

88 – wickets Mohammad Amir has now in Tests. He went past Mohammad Sami (85) to occupy the 10th spot among Pakistan fast bowlers with most wickets.

1 – the number of Pakistan left-arm pacers who have more wickets than Mohammad Amir’s 88 in Tests. The great Wasim Akram tops the chart with 414 wickets. Wahab Riaz comes at No. 3 with 78 scalps, followed by Junaid Khan with 71.

27 – Tests taken by Waqar Younis to grab 150 wickets, the second fastest to this feat ever. Yasir Shah currently has 132 wickets in 24 Tests, and needs 18 more in 3 Tests to equal Waqar Younis.

44.7 – the Strike Rate of Yasir Shah in 4th innings of a Test, easily the best for any leg-spinner. Mushtaq Ahmed comes next with 50.8, followed by Anil Kumble with 51.8. Shane Warne has a SR of 52.9 in the last innings of Tests.

56.8 – the overall Strike Rate of Yasir Shah in Tests. Among spinners with at least 100 wickets, only R Ashwin, S MacGill and M Muralitharan have a better SR than Yasir Shah. Among Pakistan spinners, Saeed Ajmal follows Yasir Shah with a SR of 65.1.

13 – the number of scores between 75 and 99 for Misbah in Tests. Among Pakistan batsmen, only Inzamam (17) and Javed Miandad (15) have more such scores. While these two have 200-plus match experience, Misbah has scored those in only 73, which shows Misbah isn’t prone to scoring much centuries.

56.24 – Younis Khan’s average since his comeback in 2010 till date. In this period, only Steve Smith (62.81) has scored at a better average than Younis Khan (min cut off: 4500 runs).

4054 – runs Misbah has now scored as captain. During his 99*, he became only the 9th batsman to score more than 4000 runs while captaining.

51.97 – Misbah’s batting average as captain, 3rd best ever among batsmen with at least 4000 runs while captaining.

51.97 – Misbah’s average as captain is also the 3rd best among Pakistan captains with at least 2000 runs. Imran Khan tops the chart with 52.34, followed by Inzamam ul Haq (52.10).
