As the Lord’s Test between England and Pakistan ends in a historic Pakistan victory, here are the stats involved with this game:
86 - the number of wickets taken by Yasir Shah in his first 13 tests. No other bowler has taken this number of wickets in as many matches in his career. Australia’s Charlie Turner is the only other player with 80+ wickets (81) after 13 tests. Yasir Shah is on the verge of becoming the bowler with fastest 100 test wickets.
10 – wickets taken by Yasir Shah at Lord’s, most by an Asian player. Waqar Younis and Anil Kumble had 8 wickets prior to Yasir’s ten-for.
42 - the number of years since a spinner took 10 wickets in a test at Lord’s. Yasir Shah’s 10/141 is the only ten-for by any Asian spinner at Lord’s.
1996 - when a Pakistani spinner took a five-wicket haul at Lord’s. Mushtaq Ahmad, now Pakistan spin bowling coach, took a five-for at Lord’s in 1996 and was useful in Pakistan’s victory then.
95 - did Mohammad Hafeez average in tests in England before this test. He had played only one game in Pak tour to Eng 2006, and scored 95 in the first innings of 4th test which infamously ended in England victory after Pakistan forfeited the match following umpire Darrell Hair’s ball tempering accusations. He now averages 45 in 3 innings.
4 - the number of times Pakistan have beaten England at Lord’s, most by any Asian team. India have done this 2 times, while SL and Ban are yet to achieve this feat. In their last 4 games at Lord’s, Pakistan were on the losing side, thrice against England in 2001, 2006 and 2010, and once against Australia in 2010.
4 – the number of Pakistan captains to win a game at Lord’s. Imran Khan is the first one to win in 1982, Javed Miandad 1992 while Wasim Akram 1996. Misbah ul Haq just joined this elite list of Pakistani greats.
3 - the number of times England have consecutively lost at Lord’s. They lost against India in 2014, but then went onto win the series 3-1. They lost against Australia at Lord’s in 2015 Ashes but won the series 3-2.
2149 - days since Mohammad Amir played his last test, and that too ironically at Lord’s. He restarted his test career at the same venue after a pause of almost 6 years.
33 - the number of wickets Mohammad Amir has taken in 7 tests in England. He averages 21.15 per wicket.
7 - the number of games Amir & Azhar Ali have played in England, making them the most experienced members of their team in Eng statistically. The veteran Younis Khan has played only 4 tests in England. Misbah ul Haq has played only one test in England. He is the oldest player/captain to debut and score a century at Lords in 82 years.
